Final Major Project

collages

These are some collages i made using various fabrics and materials. I used wallpaper for two of these and fabric for the rest and i prefer using fabrics as i feel like i can do a lot more with them and create so many more textures. I will use these to inform my work by looking at colour and texture and bringing that into my work

I did some experimenting with fabrics on a piece of board. I did some weaving of the fabrics and i like how it turned out even though i could have made the fabric more even when cutting it i still like it and i like the different colours in it along with all the different textures

Here is some experimental work I've done. I've used various materials like plastic, string, paper and cardboard. I will use these to help form ideas for patterns and shapes I could use in my work. For example i could use the weaving I did as a pattern on a piece or maybe even use the big bow thig as a piece itself on my work.

I did some experimenting with collage using these two models. The first 3 are quick rough experiments where i just quickly tore and stuck down bits of paper from magazines. I like the one on the left the most out of these 3 as i like how the folded paper looks and i think it worked well for a rough experiment. I also quite like the one on the right it is quite plain but i drew into it a little bit and i think that made it look a lot better.

These are the more refined collages i did again using magazines. I really like the bottom left one. I like how there's elements of 3D in there and the big shoulder pieces look really good. I also really like the colours in that piece too i think they work well together. I also really like the top left i folded a few pieces of the magazine on that piece which i think looks good and i like the little details i added in the piece like on the bottom of the gown and the skirt along with the corset piece i added. I'm not so keen on the top right one as i think its quite boring but i do like the shoulder piece on it.
I will use these to guide me and give me ideas when i start to think about my final piece.

i tested out making a skirt using newsprint paper and masking tape. I rolled the pieces of newsprint paper up and started to bend it to make a sort of base of a skirt. i created a lot of shape within this piece if i had more time i would have added colour by adding fabric around the base. i dont really like how this turned out since its really flimsy and lop sided so i wouldnt do this again.

i did some boutique to mess around with colour and texture. I did it on two different materials to see if the colours came out better on one and they did come out better on the thicker fabric. I really like the one i did that's to the left i think it came out the neatest of all 3 and i like the colours on it. If i did this again i would make a neater one with all of the colours and such thought out before hand.
health and safety

I tried experimenting with bits of rubbish. I placed different bits of rubbish on paper to create different textures and patterns with a mix of colours. This helped inform my work by helping me see what goes together and what doesn't.

final piece

Here is the start of my final piece. I have just completed the sort of base for the piece so I'm able to start adding more of the details in later weeks.

i have started to create a bustle by layering folded bin bags together.

I changed the tissue paper to newspaper and added some cardbaord around the waist area to create a sort of corset looking thing.

I have now added a top part for the dress which will also be used to show the sort of 'sleeves' on the dress. i will also be adding more layers to the bottom of the dress as well as creating a bustle

i have started to add colour to the piece. However i don't really like it and i need to use some recycled materials.

I also added some bows to each side to add a bit more colour.

These are my studio photos of my final piece. There's some close up of details like textures and colours i also took some shots where rubbish was falling onto the dress. I really like these photos and i think they turned out really well.
