Weekly reflection 7/3/2022

- the end of last week and beginning of this week we have explored collaging and have created our own using our own work. We created lots of differnt textures, patterns, shapes and colour within our collages. We are now using these to create multi coloured lino prints we have selected shapes and patterns within our collages to create these.

Weekly reflection 24/3/2022

this week I have made some collages mostly with fabric. I will use these to further develop my work and to show exploration within textures, patterns and fabrics. We have also selected artists and answered questions ( what, why, who ) to help direct our project and see where were at. I am planning to draw some dress designs in my sketchbook next week and also make some more collages potentially using some carrier bags as well as fabric as my project focuses on sustainability within the fashion industry.

Weekly reflection 4/4/2022

this week i am going to focus on starting the dress/part of the dress i want to make even if its just testing things like knitting and sweing. I also will be doing my project proposal and hopefully have it in detail and completed by the end of this week.

Weekly reflection 11/4/2022

this week I have played around with different techniques and materials I did some boutique on a couple different fabrics just experimenting with colour and it went pretty well I don't love the pieces but I don't mind them.

Weekly reflection 5/5/2022

I have started my final piece which is a dress and as I didn't have enough plastic carrier bags I am using black bin bags to make this dress. so far its going okay I have mixed feelings about it as I feel the dress looks a bit tacky so I might try spray painting over some stencils I make to add a bit more to the dress.

Weekly reflection 16/5/2022

i have made some changes to the dress by adding a lot more recycled materials and i want to add a few more to the dress to complete the piece. I also need to find a way to get my mannequin to stand up right

Weekly reflection 23/5/2022

I'm finishing off all work now. I have a few things to do on wix and I'm adding a few more bits of rubbish to my dress to finish the piece off. We got the mannequin to stand up right so it will be easier to do now.

evaluation

I responded to the theme personally by making a dress. I am interested in fashion and textiles, and I love playing around with materials. I applied ethics in my ideas with the materials I used. I used rubbish to create my work rather than fabric to imply how people see clothes as rubbish quite easily and we need to change the way we throw out clothes. My idea was to promote sustainable fashion by creating something using rubbish. I made my final piece fully using rubbish and I also used rubbish to experiment with. While doing research on sustainability I learnt a lot about it like when people started talking about it and how people go about making their own items using rubbish and sustainable materials. This informed my work as it gave me ideas on what materials I could use for my work and what I could do with those materials.

I used my artist research well. I used techniques and materials some had used in their work for mine. I looked at Tatyana Antoun and used her collaging as a way of experimenting for my work. She also did fashion collages, so I used those to inspire mine. I also looked at Natalie Vladimiroff and used her idea if making dresses with plastic bags for my final piece as I really liked the idea. If I could do something differently, I would have maybe researched a few more artists and used their materials, techniques and processes in my work. For my main bit of primary research, I visited Baths fashion museum. I used the primary research I got there to give me dress design ideas and ideas for patterns, colour and shape for my work. If I had more time, I would have done some observational drawings of some of the dresses I liked in the museum. I researched a few of the materials, techniques and processes I used, and I think the research was quite effective as it helped me generate ideas for my work. I would have liked to try out more materials, techniques and processes in my work if I had more time. I researched a few other things like sustainable fashion and ethics of the fashion industry. These helped inform my work as the ethics of the fashion industry gave me more insight into my whole project and what’s not good in the industry. Looking at sustainable fashion showed me many materials, techniques and processes that can be used when making sustainable fashion.

I did a few different things to generate initial ideas like mind mapping and drawing. I personally think both were effective and helped me in different ways but writing down my thoughts and ideas helped the most as I had it down in words what I wanted to do so I could start properly planning.

My final piece had some successful parts which are the corset, the shape of the dress and the details done with the rubbish. If I did this again, I would make sure that I make it a bit neater and find a way to make it stay together better as parts fall off it quite often. The bustle didn’t go as I expected. At first it was fine and stayed in place however as I was finishing it kept falling off so in the end, I had to end up leaving it as there was no time left.

I used visual language in my final outcome. I have used colour, shape, texture and some pattern. I used mostly colour and texture to show the many materials you can make things with and how they can look good with their colour. I would have used some line in the piece if I had a bit more time. I have used my materials creatively by using them to create most of my work. The main one being my dress as I combined multiple different materials in the piece and the textures and colour within the piece look good. I think my ongoing reflective practice went well. I made reflective comments after doing almost everything and I used them to help improve my work. I also did weekly reflection on my work. I think if I did it again, I would maybe add longer reflective comments as mine were quite short. I have considered sustainability by using rubbish in my work and I used them materials for most of my work. I think next time I would probably not use some materials like plastic bags as they are not sustainable.

I didn’t meet all deadlines on time, but I’ve managed to complete the tasks asked of me. If I set out a strict plan of how I am going to do things and made sure I got certain things done before I left college on certain days, I think I would have managed to meet deadlines. I’ve learnt that planning and organising Is important, and I should definitely do it when I work, and I should stick to my plans.

I think I presented my work neatly and you can clearly see what each thing is and where everything is. If I had extra time, I would have maybe evenly set everything out as there’s a few parts that have uneven photos. I have identified my audience in my project proposal and have continued to work and present work in a way that my target audience would be interested in.
My fashion and textiles work went good. I have developed my knowledge in fabric by playing with unusual materials like plastic bags, cardboard, crisp packets and newspaper. I have also developed my knowledge on silhouettes as i have focused on human figures a lot in this project. If i could i would also like to develop my knowledge in colour.

My personal goals as a creative practitioner are to find what I enjoy doing most which I’ve found is fashion and textiles and I would like to learn how to make more clothing. This project helped me with this goal because I was able to explore materials and through that I found what I enjoy the most. To keep moving towards this goal I will start learning at home how I can make things and go from there.
